About Us
Bob Bland is a Brooklyn-based fashion designer, entrepreneur and community art advocate. Her brand, Brooklyn Royalty, was founded in 2006 and inspired by the fiercely independent spirit and highly individual aesthetic of King’s County residents. A professional menswear designer with previous experience at Triple Five Soul, Rugby by Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger and Banana Republic, her line combines timeless design principles, premium materials and hand-printed graphics that are meant to look and wear better over time.
In 2009, Bob created The Arsenal, an inclusive cultural event space that doubled as a showroom and fashion laboratory for the local creative community. Built on the foundations of an actual Civil War-era armory, The Arsenal’s inception and subsequent partnership with Brooklyn Royalty provided the brand with opportunities to exhibit new collections and host innovative fashion events in a gallery-style setting.
Personally, 2009 was also a big year for brand director and founder Bob Bland when she married her hometown sweetheart at Trinity Church on Wall Street in NYC. They purchased a beautiful, historical home in West Philadelphia. A longtime fan of Philly, Bob scouted everywhere from Northern Liberties to Clark Park for several years in the pursuit of keeping her line all locally-made, yet as affordable as always. She moved some of her garment production and printing operations to the City of Brotherly Love and debuted her Spring 2010 line in the city's inaugural Philadelphia Fashion Week. In her spare time, Bob also designed another Philadelphia favorite, independent menswear label Duke & Winston.
In 2010, Bob’s NYC headquarters were located at Kingdom, a Brooklyn phenomena that served triple duty as bar, boutique and gallery space for the local creative community. Her first-ever concept store, Kingdom exclusively stocked Brooklyn Royalty men's and ladies' apparel, accessories and jewelry, as well as 15 of the best local & independent designers, along with gallery exhibitions and BKR collaborations with emerging artists. Open late night and serving drinks specials for boutique patrons, as well as weekly in-store performances of up-and-coming musicians & DJs, Bob's new concept received excellent reviews from the New York Times, Blackbook Magazine and countless others commenting that it is truly a one-of-a-kind shopping experience. Her pop-up culminated with a Fashion Night Out photo shoot & party at The Knitting Factory that was an epic merging of art, music and fashion with an incredible turn-out.
2011 marks the 5th anniversary of Brooklyn Royalty, and the biggest year yet for the constantly evolving Bob Bland. She delivered her first child into this crazy world, and has been funneling the incredible creative energy of motherhood into designing new maternity, nursing & baby lines as well as her seasonal collections of tees for Brooklyn Royalty. Recent collaborations include The Knitting Factory & Brokelyn, with an exciting new estore launch and iphone app on the horizon. |
